In January of 2020, single mom and employee of two jobs, Shannon Smith* was severely injured in a car accident.

After months of lost wages during her recovery from surgery on her neck and ankles, Shannon was told by many different sources that she did not fit the criteria to receive assistance with mounting bills.

Unknown to her, Shannon’s nurses on her medical team applied to the Outer Banks Relief Foundation on her behalf. The intervention from her caregivers and the Outer Banks Relief Foundation enabled her to catch up on her mortgage as well as regain optimism after so many months of pain and debt.

Shannon expressed how helpful and pleasant the foundation was and how gratifying it was to be comforted after her accident and recovery.

“The nurses who advocated for me and the Outer Banks Relief Foundation were a blessing.”

Today Shannon is back on her feet and working again.
