We so often assume our lives will continue unchanged into the future.
Like many of us, Steve built his career while holding this implicit belief. He never imagined that an old injury would resurface, becoming physically debilitating and financially frightening.
A few years ago, Steve aggravated a hernia that had been repaired in 2017. Because this happened during his busy work season, he pushed through the pain. When he finally had the chance to get medical help, he felt daunted by the cost of surgery combined with lost wages from time away from work.
Caught between worsening health and financial strain for nearly two years, Steve tried to manage his health on his own but, over time, the stakes became higher.
The physical adjustments Steve was making to keep moving and earn his living led to nerve pain and muscle spasms. Eventually, things became so severe that he relied on crutches to make it through the workday.
That’s when a suggestion from a friend about Relief Foundation assistance made all the difference.
With the help of relief funding, Steve was able to access the medical care he needed, regain his health, and continue making his living.
