When a devastating leg injury left her unable to work, Liza – who owns and operates Wildflower Skin Care – found herself facing mounting bills and uncertainty about the future. A severe spiral fracture to both her tibia and fibula required emergency surgery, including the insertion of a rod and screws. The road to recovery was long – and expensive.

“I was left unable to work for several months. I had rent, utilities, and auto insurance piling up, and I had to somehow keep my business afloat.”

That’s when she turned to the Outer Banks Relief Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Relief Foundation stepped in to help cover essential household bills, allowing her the time and space she needed to heal – without the added stress of financial hardship.

“The Outer Banks Relief Foundation was there for me when I needed them the most. Because of the help I received, I was able to recover without feeling overburdened. Now I am back to work, and every chance I get, I give back so that others in need can benefit as well.”

With the support of her husband Kendall, and a loving community of friends, family, and clients, she learned to walk again – literally – and has emerged stronger and more grateful than ever. Today, she’s working, healing, and continuing her journey toward full recovery.

She enjoys a healthy lifestyle and reminds everyone she meets of the importance of self-exams and yearly mammograms.

“My leg is still a challenge at times. I can’t do all the activities I used to, and it gets tired easily. But each day gets better.”
